CONFUSED ABOUT ALL THE DENTAL IMPLANT ADVERTISING YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Call (713) IMP-LANT

Unfortunately, many "non-surgical" dentists begin to surgically place implants after taking an abbreviated (1-3 day) course on implant surgery. These courses do not prepare the participants to predict, diagnose and treat potential complications for their patient. It's your health and it's important that you ask the right questions of your doctor before proceeding with dental implant surgery.

How long have they been placing implants and how many have they placed in the last year?

What training have they received to handle complications should they arise, or do you have to be referred out to a specialist?

How often do they attend continuing education courses about the specialty of implant surgery?

I Want to Learn How Bone Grafting Can Help Me

When a tooth is lost, an empty hole is left in the jawbone. This empty socket and the surrounding bone have no purpose; therefore, the body allows the bone to deteriorate. If this occurs in the front of the mouth, the lips will not have any underlying support, and they will cave inward, creating an aged appearance. Likewise, missing teeth in the back of the mouth provide support for cheeks. Without back teeth, the cheeks sink inward, adding years to a person’s appearance.

Prosthetic tooth replacements such as bridges, partials, and dentures do not replace teeth roots; therefore, bone continues to deteriorate. In the case of a bridge, an unattractive space becomes visible between the replacement teeth and the gums. Partials press on the jawbone which accelerates deterioration.

Missing back teeth cause front teeth to flare outward, the mouth to droop at the sides, and the entire bite to collapse. Appearance is further negatively affected by a reduction in the overall height of the jawbone.

If all of the teeth are missing, jawbone deterioration accelerates significantly. Muscles actually move from their original position, lips and cheeks cave inward, and wrinkles form.

The specialists at Southwest Institute of Dental Implantology offer a variety of bone grafting services, so you can avoid these problems. Some of your options include:

  • Ridge Preservation – replacing bone in a single tooth site
  • Sinus Lift – bone grafting in the upper jaw to increase the amount of bone height
  • Autogenous Bone Graft – using your own bone tissue to supplement thin bone in the jaws
  • Platelet Rich Plasma Technique (PRP) – using your blood’s own platelets to expedite healing
