CONFUSED ABOUT ALL THE DENTAL IMPLANT ADVERTISING YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Call (713) IMP-LANT
Unfortunately, many "non-surgical" dentists begin to surgically place implants after taking an abbreviated (1-3 day) course on implant surgery. These courses do not prepare the participants to predict, diagnose and treat potential complications for their patient. It's your health and it's important that you ask the right questions of your doctor before proceeding with dental implant surgery.
How long have they been placing implants and how many have they placed in the last year?
What training have they received to handle complications should they arise, or do you have to be referred out to a specialist?
How often do they attend continuing education courses about the specialty of implant surgery?

They don’t show when you smile, so why replace missing back teeth? If you do not replace back teeth, your bite (how upper and lower teeth fit together) will be compromised, which may result in headaches, teeth grinding, and other problems associated with TMJ disorder.
When a natural tooth is removed, and the roots are no longer attached in the jawbone, the bone has no purpose, causing it to deteriorate. Also, as the bite collapses from the bone loss, the appearance of your face will change, making you look older than your years. Missing back teeth lead to the cheeks sinking inward, thus creating an unwanted appearance of aging. In addition, in order to accommodate chewing, your remaining teeth will shift out of place, moving toward the space left by missing teeth. This, too, can compromise proper bite position. However, all of these problems can be eliminated if missing back teeth are replaced.
An attractive solution, dental implants will give the jawbone purpose, thus promoting retention. Dental implants also replace the crown of missing teeth to restore proper bite. Surrounding teeth will not have space to shift out of place, which means that the appearance of your smile will stay intact. Replacing back teeth with dental implants will also give the facial skin underlying structure for a more youthful appearance.
